Your home is your sanctuary, but pests can turn it into a battleground. The tiny invaders—whether ants in the pantry, roaches scuttling in the dark, or mosquitoes buzzing around the backyard—pose not only a nuisance but also a potential health risk. For many, the fear of harsh, toxic chemicals only adds to the stress. At Atlantic Pest Control, we understand your concerns. You’re not alone, and there’s a solution that doesn’t compromise your family’s health or the environment — environmentally-safe extermination.
When Pests Overstay Their Welcome
Imagine settling into a cozy evening when you spot a line of ants marching across the countertop. Or imagine hosting a backyard barbecue, only to have mosquitoes drive your guests away. These unwelcome guests disrupt your peace, and their presence can make even the most comforting spaces feel unlivable. These scenarios are all too common in West Palm Beach, where the tropical climate is a haven for pests.
In fact, West Palm Beach has made several lists regarding top Florida cities with alarming pest problems. It made Terminix’s list of top 50 rodent-infested cities of 2023, coming in at No. 42. In early 2024, Orkin came out with a list of the top termite cities in the nation, and WPB found itself at No. 9. Pest Gnome curated a 2023 list of the most vulnerable counties for mosquito-borne diseases and Palm Beach county made no. 39. Thumbtack also published a study of the nation’s “buggiest” cities, putting West Palm Beach in seventh place. Yikes!
A Greener, Safer Solution: Your Path to Peace
Now, imagine a home where pests are no longer a problem—and neither are toxic chemicals. Atlantic Pest Control’s environmentally safe extermination services offer just that. With our eco-friendly methods, you can reclaim your space without exposing your loved ones to harmful substances. Visualize a kitchen free of ants, a backyard where your kids can play safely, and evenings where you can relax without a single buzzing intruder.
“Over 20 years ago, I had the idea to start a pest control company because I knew of a way to solve problems without exposing anybody to harmful chemicals, especially as a family man. I didn’t want to expose myself to anything that would harm me,” Atlantic Pest Control founder Richard Barsky said, adding that APC is ostensibly the only South Florida exterminator business that removes pests and uses safe chemicals.
This is possible thanks to alternative pesticides, which replace toxic components with ingredients that target specific pests and don’t harm other creatures or the environment.
How does that work?
Various pesticides use different components to get the job done without causing harm to the environment and humans, but it depends on the purpose of the pesticide. For example, boric acid is a natural element used in many pesticides that target ants, cockroaches, silverfish, termites, mites, and millipedes. However, it’s unlikely to work on centipedes –, spiders, and ticks. It acts as a stomach poison.
Note that not every less toxic insecticide or pesticide controls every single pest. Therefore, check the various insecticides that are ideal for environmentally friendly extermination.
Bacillus thuringienis (BT): It mainly controls some caterpillars and beetle larvae.
Diatomaceous Earth: It’s a natural pesticide that dries the pests out, which is perfect for pests that rely on water like slugs, millipedes, and sowbugs.
Horticultural oils are highly refined petroleum or plant-based products that control insects, mites, and some plant diseases. Two types of horticultural oils exist: dormant oils and summer oils. Dormant oils suffocate insects and mites by disrupting their cell membranes and metabolism. However, dormant oils are typically used during the dormant season to handle overwintering pests. Summer oils are used during growing season.
Insecticidal soaps: These are potassium salts of fatty acids that disrupt soft-bodied insects’ cell membranes, dehydrating and, ultimately, killing them.
Kaolin Clay: This is a mineral like boric acid and diatomaceous earth, but it starves insects. It impedes on insect feeding by creating a barrier and hiding the plant tissue’s color.
